Story:
Le Merle, Blackbird in French, was created in honor of Merle Ruedrich, wife of Brewmaster Mark Ruedrich. Ferreira began a series of pen and ink sketches (shown above) intended to be quick, evocative brush renderings of the soul of the blackbird. North Coast Brewing selected their favorite for the label. The tap handle concept, with a mirror embedded behind the flat plane of the brand image, was developed by Whitehill and Ferreira to add dimensionality and sparkle to the stylized artwork.
